American Dream still includes homeownership A recent survey conducted by the National Association of Home Builders revealed that homeownership is still very much part of the American Dream.
Of those responding to the NAHB's survey, 75 percent relayed that they still feel owning a home is worth the erratic market movements, while 95 percent of current homeowners are pleased with their real estate purchase. The report stated that many Americans "see beyond the immediate housing market to the enduring value of homeownership."
"People believe overwhelmingly that owning a home is an anchor to the American Dream," Celinda Lake, president of Lake Research Partners, told the International Business News. "It's an anchor to your retirement, and it's an anchor to your personal economic well-being."
While this survey could serve as positive momentum for the real estate market, Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke recently relayed negative news at a conference. Bernanke stated that tighter lending standards and erratic unemployment rates have deterred many from entering the market, which the chairman described as "troubled."
In Houston, the real estate market could improve, however, as the region has added a significant amount of positions during the last year.
